About Us

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Tuan Dao, Specialist Dental Studio has grown into a thriving practice, caring for the dental health of the community in the Inner West and Northern Beaches of Sydney.

In 2023, Specialist Dental Studio opened a second practice in Dee Why to serve the residents of the Northern Beaches.
Both practices are equipped with the latest advances in digital dentistry. Specialised dental scanners allow us to take a much more accurate scan of your teeth, while our 3D dental printer and ARUM milling machine enable us to produce dental splints, dentures, bridges and crowns right here on the premises.

Dr Tuan Dao

BDS, MDSc (Pros) Prosthodontist

Dr. Dao completed his Bachelors degree in Dental Surgery with Honours, as well as a Masters in Dental Science in Prosthodontics at the University of Sydney.

In 2007, the International College of Prosthodontists awarded Dr. Dao the Young Prosthodontist Award. He has held multiple executive roles within the Australian Prosthodontics Society (NSW branch), including both Secretary and President, and is also a founding member of the Multidisciplinary Grand Rounds Study Club in NSW.

For 10 years, Dr. Dao held a teaching position at the University of Sydney as a Specialist Clinical Associate, demonstrating prosthodontics to final year students. Additionally he was a Prosthodontic Mentor for the Graduate Diploma in Oral Implants at the University of Sydney.
Dr. Dao has presented numerous lectures both nationally and internationally on behalf of the University of Sydney, ADA NSW, MDGRS, USYD CE and dental industry partners. He is also a contributor to the textbook Oral Rehabilitation: A Case-Based Approach.

He is excited to be able to service the Northern Beaches community bringing his expertise and knowledge in Prosthodontics in 2024.

Dr Amylia Bal

BDS, DClinDent (Pros) Prosthodontist

Dr. Bal’s holistic approach to dental rehabilitation includes preventative and risk management strategies to address not only the consequences but also the cause of each patient’s dental issues. Graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery, Dr. Bal went on to work in private practices in both regional and metropolitan NSW. A keen interest in dental rehabilitation with fixed and removable prosthetics led her to undertake a doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) at the University of Sydney in 2021.

Dr. Bal is a member of various professional organisations, including the International College of Prosthodontists (ICP), the Academy of Australian and New Zealand Prosthodontists (AANZP), the Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS), and the International Team for Implantology (ITI). She was also the founder and director for a time of the Sydney University (ITI) Study Club.

Dr. Bal joined the Specialist Dental Studio Strathfield practice in 2024.
